Obiecałam, więc wracamy do zamków. Obecny jej stan to efekt XX wiecznej odbudowy (1956 rok).
Like I promised we come back to the castles. This time it’s the second Eagle Nest (the first one here was Ogrodzieniec). The building in Będzin, in contrast to Ogrodzieniec, is a royal castle. The current condition of the stronghold is an effect of the 20th century reconstruction (in 1956).
Najwcześniej wspominali o nim w kronikach Jan Długosz i Jan z Czarnkowa. Zamek opustoszał już w 2 połowie XVI wieku, a sto lat później został zniszczony podczas potopu szwedzkiego. Odbudowano go, lecz od XVIII wieku znów pozostawał w ruinie.
History of this place begins in 9th century, when there was a slavic gord here. The gord probably was owned by Vistulans. In 13th centure, during the reign of Bolesław the Chaste, a bergfried was placed here. During the reign of Casimir the Great, the upper castle and two rings of the walls were constructed. Będzin was the westernmost stronghold which was supposed to guarantee the safety of the royal city of Kraków. The earlies mention of it can by found in chronicles by Jan Długosz and Jan of Czarnków. The castle was abandoned in the 2nd half of 16century, and 100 years later was destroyed during the Swedish Deluge. It was rebuilt, but of the 18th century became a ruin again. In 1834, neogothical restauration was conducted, designed by Franciszek Maria Lanci, and in the 1950s it was reconstructed by Zygmunt Gawlik. Originally, the bergfried was higher, and it’s upper part was made of brick. The castle’s tower wasn’t separate. The building had the same number of condignations. The lower castle still isn’t recondtructed, but I’ve found interesting plans regarding this project (unfortunately the site is Polish only, but there are many pictures which illustrate this idea).
There is Muzeum Zagłębia in the castle where are two permanent exhibitions: “Old Weapon” and “The history of the castle and the town”. For 4 PLN you can climb the bergfried where you can enjoy panoramic view of Będzin. The history, curiosity about the stronghold and computer reconstruction of the bergfried (which look like some mod to Warband) and lots of photographies are here (of course only Polish version :/).
